As part of mentorship program held in Malaysia organised by the Malaysian National Authority for the Chemical Weapons Convention (NACWC) in cooperation with the Organisation for the aProhibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW), a delegation from the National Authority of Chemical
Weapons of Sudan visited the Royal Malaysian Customs Headquarters in Putrajaya on 19th December 2013. The delegation from the National Authority of Chemical Weapons of Sudan was led by Mr. Khalid Mohamad Osman Mohamad, Director of the National Authority of Chemical Weapons of Sudan and was accompanied by Mr. Abuzar Abbas Eljack Eltieeb, Head of the Executive Office and Mr. Ahmed Hassan El Shafie, Assistance and Protection Section.
The delegates from Sudan was given a briefing on the overall view of Royal Malaysian Customs Department (RMCD) and Mr. Zaily bin Ayub, Assistant Director of Customs gave a comprehensive presentation on RMCD’s Customs and Border Control Initiatives. The presentation included topics on Customs import and export procedures; transit, transhipment and movement of goods; prohibition of import and export as well as risk management; Megaport Initiative and Strategic Trade Act 2010. Pursuant to the presentation, the delegates and RMCD’s officers, led by Deputy Director of Customs (Trade Facilitation and Industry), Mr Abd. Gani Othman discussed on issues concerning customs role on border control involving chemical weapons and other prohibited or restricted goods.
The delegation from the National Authority of Chemical Weapons of Sudan expressed their thanks to RMCD for the presentations and discussions. They also indicated their interest in requesting assistance from RMCD in developing and enhancing their Border Control Measures, especially in controlling the movement of chemical weapons in Sudan.
